Excursion to BACHER in Stockach – How Does Stainless Steel Processing Work?

On the 7th of May, a group of around 20 students from the Life Science Engineering and Life Science Innovation Master's degree programmes visited BACHER Edelstahlverarbeitung GmbH in Stockach as part of the Hygienic Processing module with Prof. Dr Andreas Schmid. The company manufactures customised stainless steel solutions, primarily products for the life science industry, such as cleanroom equipment and furniture or process equipment.

Managing Director Mario Bacher personally took the whole morning to host the students. After his welcome and the presentation of the company video, two pieces of furniture, a mobile standing desk and a height-adjustable table, were evaluated together according to the aspects of hygienic design and consideration of the cost and production aspects. The subsequent tour along the process chain started with the water jet cutting of the stainless steel sheets. The tour continued to the folding press, where the sheets are bent according to the image of a digital twin. At the next station, an employee demonstrated welding and subsequent grinding. Last but not least, there were insights into surface treatment (including electropolishing) and measurement technology for assessing surface roughness and metal composition. The extremely entertaining and practically orientated 3-hour programme flew by. Many thanks to the BACHER team!
